When you find a meditation that 'fits', you may wish to read it aloud and record it. Then replay it, sit back, relax and allow your mind and soul to enjoy the journey. Or you may wish to share this experience with a partner, taking turns reading it softly to one another.
Yule Ritual Meditation
(excerpt):
Settle yourself. Close your eyes. Feel your body relax. Feel as the tensions drain from your face, your neck, your shoulders, your arms, your torso, your legs. Sense the whole of your body, calm, heavy in its relaxation. Center yourself. Feel for that calm, comfortable center, in which you are whole. Ground yourself. Extend yourself into the earth, your mother. Feel as your roots grow into the ground, as you find your connectedness with her again.
This time is the time of Yule, the Winter Solstice, when the sun clings most closely to the horizon. It is a time for rebirth. While many months of winter still await us, the days now begin to lengthen, holding behind the hoary frost the promise of the gentle breath of Spring.
Extend your senses beyond the walls, to the world outside. Smell in the crisp cold a hint of snows yet to come. See, in your mind's eye, the clear clean air. Old dry leaves, long fallen, rustle as they tumble around, caught finally in the tangled stems of dormant shrubs. Bark cracks in the hard frost, and breaks away, falling unnoticed to the earth....

Meditation for Yule
(excerpt):
Take a moment to make yourself very comfortable. Lie or sit on the floor. Take a quick look through your body and see if there is tension in any of your muscles. If there is, let it relax a little if it will. The floor is supporting your weight so there is no need for your muscles to work at all now. Take another quick look at your body, this time checking your joints. If any are uncomfortable, make the necessary adjustments so they rest comfortably. Feel the floor supporting your weight. Let your body relax into the floor. Become aware of your breathing, of your heartbeat, and of the blood flowing out to your fingers and toes. Reassure yourself that these processes will continue as you let your awareness loose from your body for a short while.
Now, let your awareness float above your body. See your body laying on the floor and the silver cord which connects you to it. Let yourself float up through the roof so that you are above the house, looking down on it. Float up higher. See the flickering lights that people put up to celebrate this sacred time. Let the lights fall away below you so that you float above the Earth. As you go higher, you see the sun behind it. Pay your respects to the sun as this is His celebration....

A Meditation for Yule
(excerpt):
The cool darkness surrounds you
Still and silent, the deep Night wraps you in Her arms
In this moment, there is nothing that you need to do – except breathe
Breathe in the embracing darkness
Breathe in the utter stillness where all is at peace
Breathe in the silence – The deep resounding silence,
In which you can finally feel the infinite space of the Universe.
For on this night, the world itself remembers and honours its own birth.
Still and silent, yet shimmering in anticipation.
On the longest and deepest of breaths in,
Waiting to become to take the journey out into existence:
To name itself, Universe, the Great Grandmother,
To become a womb Itself to dancing stars and living planets.
Cradled in a profound moment of eternal potentia
All that is and will ever be
Enfolded in the Tomb/Womb beyond all existence....

Yule: Sunrise in the Snow meditation/evocation
(excerpt):
A field of snow lies, shadows blue, in the gray before dawn. The air is so cold it pinches your nose shut; it smells crisp, like ice. Your breath around you is steam. You crunch forward in the snow, leaving footprints, one by one, in blank snow, like the first person on earth. Into silence, echoing silence.
At the edge of the field sits a wooden fence, wood of its ties gone silver- gray with age. You climb over, drop to the other side. You see that from the fence's top tie you have peeled a splinter, and in the wound the wood shows warm tan-brown, the old wood still young beneath its skin. You brush yourself off, wondering where the splinter has gone, but you are bundled against the cold and you do not find it.
You stand still a moment on the snowy hill. The sky has lightened to a shining yellow-white, and along the blue mountains on the horizon flames a rim of coral. The sun is about to rise....
