Text Box: Lammas is celebrated on August 1st and marks the first harvest of the fall. This sabbat is also known as Lughnasadh (Loo-na-sahd), named for the Celtic sun God, Lugh. The name Lammas, comes from the Saxon for 'bread-mass', which reflects the importance of bread for this holiday.
The fertility of the summer is passing, and it is now time to harvest that abundance. The central theme for the holiday is the giving of thanks for the crops. Much of the symbolism for this sabbat revolves around corn and grains, the crops typically harvested in early fall.
Symbolically, the God and Goddess are older, and He is losing his strength as seen in the waning daylight. His energy has been sacrificed to Text Box: produce the fall crops. At the same time, the Goddess is pregnant with the young God to be born again at Yule.
Things to Do:
Bake Bread - Newly harvested wheat and other grains prompted the baking of fresh bread. If aren't handy enough in the kitchen to bake your own bread, you could get a fresh loaf from a local bakery.
Give Thanks - Take some time from your busy life to stop and think about what is important in your life, and perhaps do a small ritual to thank the Gods for the blessings you have received in this past year.
Enjoy the Harvest - If you aren't a gardener, visit a local market and get some home-grown produce for your Text Box: Lammas meal.
Symbols:
Herbs - Corn, rye, wheat
Colours - Red, gold, yellow
Oils/Incense - Eucalyptus, safflower, apple

Text Box: Items For Your Altar
Text Box: Creating an altar is an expression of your reverence for Spirit as well as your sacred work space. Great time and care should be spent on choosing the items that will grace your altar and the tools that will be used there.
You don't actually have to spend money if you are not inclined to. But keep your eyes open, and see things Text Box: from a Pagan viewpoint. You can peek in shop windows, or look to nature. See what you can find that might be used to represent the elements, Deity or maybe just things that catch your eye. Spiritual elements are all around us if you let yourself see them. Your altar doesn't need to only hold 'real' tools bought at a metaphysical or occult shop. Text Box: Anything can be used.
The important thing to always keep in mind is that each and every item brought to your altar should hold special significance or meaning to you. This adds to the energy of work performed there as well as affirming that your altar is indeed a very special, personal, and sacred place.

Controlling Change Spell

Changes can be unsettling, and we often wish we had more control over those situations. This simple spell helps to do that, use a cotton swab dipped in lemon juice. Wrie a brief description of the things that are bothering youthe most on a piece of parchement paper. Now heat the an iron and press it to the parchment paper lightly, you will see the writing come clear. As you do this, say the following:

These are the changes I can see,
make their nature clear to me.

You will be able to find solutions to problems caused by change once you see the whole picture.

Spell To Enhance Positive Magic or the Learning Thereof

Make an empowered altar mat. Start with seven purple strips of cloth and thirteen white strips, all of which should be about 1-1 1/2 inches wide and 7 inches long. Weave the strips together in an over-under pattern, the thirteen going left to right and the seven moving top to bottom. While you work, sing a magical song or add a chant to store power within the mat. One example is "Weave the cloth, weave it well, all the while I weave my spell. Wrought with magic that I impart, weave the power with my art." The finished mat can become part of your altar or make an effective covering for one of your magical tools.

As a side note, you can make these mats more durable by starting with a base material of colored construction paper and by laminating the finished product. In this form, this spell is an excellent project for children ages six through nine. Laminating materials are available at most photocopying stores.

General Uses :

Energizing mystical, supernatural, or metaphysical functions and rites.

Timing :

For increasing positive magic, use waxing to full moons. Months of September, November, and December. Moon in Capricorn. Wednesday.

Time to Glitter Spell

In the early days of spring, especially if winter's grip is still a tight fist, it's hard to remember that we are beings of shining light. To regain our natural sparkle, gather together glitter, a square of brightly colored cloth, a birthday candle, and a couple of safety pins. Pour a generous amount of glitter on the cloth and then fold it into an envelope and pin it securely. Place it on your altar for a day. Then take the glitter packet in your hands and say, three times...

"Off with the old,
sparkle like gold"

Place the packet close to the birthday candle, light the candle, and let it burn all the way down. The next time you feel a little depressed or down, take out the packet, open it up and throw the glitter all over yourself. Remember it is your time to shine.
